LLANDUDNO V RHOS AELWYD
Llandudno started with the same line up as the previous week’s game at Llangefni, not many times this season can this be said and it was a good start from the home team putting Rhos under pressure from the off within the first ten minutes Llandudno had chances but nothing clear cut. It was Rhos who had the first real chance of the game when a bad mix up in the back line led to Josh Griffiths hitting a volley over the bar from a good position, this kick started Llandudno as they created numerous chances to open the scoring, first was Gowans going wide with his left foot then a lovely through ball from Lee Thomas
to Dean Seager
seen the young striker try to lob the out-coming Ashley Crosthwaite in the visitors goal but in narrowly cleared the crossbar. The goal eventually came on 21 minutes after some great football played between Lee Jones, Joe Morgan
and Gowans, a deft header by the later put Dean Seager
In on goal and he made no mistake with a firm volley into the net. 1-0.
Steve Powell tried his luck on 28 minutes but it was a tame effort which trickled wide. Llandudno continued to get at the visitors and Crosthwaite was off his line to clear the danger on a few occasions but he couldn’t prevent a second on 37 minutes when Lee Thomas
again caused problems down the sides, he cut back and played Seager with a neat pass and Seager found Ben Hughes
in space on the edge of the box, Hughes passed into the net to make it two nil. 2-0.
In the aftermath of the goal Rhos had their manager Aled Rowlands dismissed by referee Martin Williams for something he said but to be fair to him I think the ref got it wrong as he seemed to be talking to his players.
A great delivery into the Llandudno area by Dan Evans caused a problem which Eardley cleared for a Rhos Aelwyd corner but nothing came of it and the half time whistle went with the home team looking comfortable.
Within a few minutes of the restart Lee Thomas
and Dean Seager
combined again opening up Rhos Aelwyd’s defence, Thomas set Seager up to hit a beautiful volley that gave the keeper no chance and give him his second of the afternoon.3-0.
On 52 minutes Llandudno should have increased their lead when Seager played in Thomas with a free run on goal and he selflessly squared the ball to Tom Dix
but his effort was saved by Crosthwaite. Lee and Dean are creating a formidable partnership and they combined again on 64 minutes this time Seager setting Thomas free to hit a volley that just cleared the crossbar.
Rhos then had their best spell of the game as they pushed forward to look for a way back into the game, a great ball into the area by Dan Gibbon found Roy Cardis in space and he should have done better with his header that went wide, but on 75 minutes a close range header by Mike Parry gave the visitors some belief that they could salvage this game. 3-1.
As Rhos pushed this gave Llandudno a lot of space to counter attack and they did when Seager played in substitute Anthony Teirney
with just the keeper to beat he put his shot wide.
Danny Gibbon went close with a header but Whitfield tipped over for a corner. The returning Aaron Prichard looked match fit again and played his part in the last quarter after such a long lay off due to injury, he done really well. With eight minutes remaining a bizarre incident occurred when Lee Thomas
hit a shot from distance which hit the bar and came down across the line hitting the goalkeepers water bottle and rebounding out, the referee continued play and confusion reigned.
Dan Binnersley was shown a red card with three minutes remaining for a two footed challenge, this made things difficult for the visitors as Joe Morgan
missed a great chance from eight yards out and Tom Dix
did the same just moments later.
FINAL SCORE 3-1.
