Llandudno Rugby Club Under 14s welcomed a very strong Wirral RFC side to Maesdu Road on Sunday. Wirral have had some excellent results this season and so Llandudno knew they were in for a tough game.
Despite conceding territory in the first half, the Llandudno boys defended strongly and broke out from defence to score three great tries. The support and offloading paid dividends and resulted in tries from Ryan Griffiths, Isaac Williams and Morgan Owen, with two conversions from James Rowlands.
In the second half Wirral upped their game and again spent long periods in the Llandudno half which enabled their strong running centre to step his way to two converted tries.
But Llandudno showed strong character under immense pressure, and scored two tries of their own to put them 31-14 ahead. The second half tries were scored by Rhys Tudor and a second for Morgan Owen, the latter converted by Isaac Williams.
It was the sort of physical challenge the Llandudno boys needed, and they came through with flying colours, showing their ability to defend strongly, excellent discipline and play great running rugby from anywhere on the pitch. The whole squad should be proud of their performance, but player of the match went to Morgan Owen for his running with the ball and his defence without it.
