United end the year on high!

Llandyrnog made sure the bad weather didn’t affect their good recent form with a resounding win in their best performance of the season to date.

Without a game since December 2nd but unbeaten in 5 games prior to that the visitors quickly went about maintaining the momentum built up from those games.
It took just 10 minutes for them to take the lead as in form Luke Appleby headed home a fine right wing cross from Sean James.

Ryan Harden’s side were looking dangerous everytime they went forward and manufactured two one on one situations for Mark Roberts and Dan Porter who were both thwarted by Danny Stanton in the Greenfield goal. Porter then rattled the bar with a free kick before a bizarre refereeing decision allowed the home side back in the game. Conor Jones was clearly shoved in the back as he attempted to clear the ball but as the Dyrny defence switched off thinking a free kick must be awarded, Danny Calvert lashed home from close range to level things up at half time.

That sense of injustice only seemed to spur Dyrny on and the final 45 minutes was played almost exclusively in Greenfields half. Captain Mark Roberts was making his first start since the beginning of the season and he was quickly back amongst the goals. First he broke clear and rifled a shot past Stanton into the top corner before he danced round him minutes later and tapped home to make it 3-1. They didn’t have to wait long for a 4th goal either when Porter scored direct from a corner. The front 3 of Roberts, Porter and Appleby terrorised the home side all day but it was Appleby who took the man of the match award with a tireless display up front.

Harden said ‘With injuries clearing up its the strongest team I’ve been able to field this season so it’s no coinicidence it resulted in our strongest performance. We were excellent and should have won by a far greater margin. The lads have worked hard in training while the games have been getting called off and they got their reward for that today’’
