Meifod 1-5 Llanfair United
Hat-trick for Jones on derby night in Meifod
Llanfair were the victors in the local derby again, this time winning 5-1 on a freezing cold night at Meifod.
Meifod started well, hassling Llanfair, creating half chances and through Alun Hughes, they took the lead when his deflected shot found the corner of the net. Llanfair struggled to create anything on the new short and narrow Meifod pitch which Meifod used well to their advantage. However just before half time Llanfair had a goal surge. Firstly Daniel Jones sent a Robert Bennett cross looping over the stranded Meifod keeper with his head to draw level before Geraint Jones scored from close range to take the lead. Daniel Jones struck again with his head just before the whistle to make it 3-1 at the break.
After a quick turnaround to avoid getting colder Llanfair continued their late first half form. Daniel Jones grabbed his hat-trick goal before Geraint Jones finished well to make it 5. Paul Griffiths and Andrew Hughes went close towards the end both finding the woodwork.
A pleasing win after a difficult first half. Next game is Knighton Away, Saturday, 2.30pm.
