Heavy loss for Reserves in first game
A disappointing defeat against a superior Guilsfield in a game where the scoreline doesn't quite tell the full story
The visitors started well and were 1-0 up after only 4 minutes when Danny Barton headed the ball back across the goal for Harry Garthwaite to tap the ball into an empty net, unmarked from 3 yards.
Llanfair responded well though and were level on 13 minutes when Ashley Davies' low left side cross found Tom Gregory running into the box to finish well from 12 yards.
It wasn't long before Guilsfield regained the lead again, this time Danny Barton heading powerfully into the net from a deep free kick.
Llanfair held on until half time and started the second half well.
However, a lapse in concentration lead to Harry Garthwaite racing through unmarked to slot the ball home 1 on 1.
Llanfair were in the game and improving until the 80th minute when Guilsfield were awarded a controversial penalty for a 'push' which Danny Barton converted.
Two late goals by Harry Garthwaite again and Jon Lloyd on 86 and 90 minutes gave the visitors a slightly flattering scoreline in what for the most of the game was competitive.
A positive was seeing three 16 year olds stepping up from junior football to make their full debuts, Toby Roberts, Jared Pugh and Callum Evans.
Before the game, the team were presented with their new kit, kindly sponsored once again by Londis, Bridge Garage, Llanfair Caereinion. Neil Whittingham of Bridge Garage is pictured presenting the kit before kick off.
