Girls U15 - another great day
Consistent level of performance across 3 games
21 Montgomeryshire girls, 9 of our own, travelled to Llanwrst full of confidence from their superb separate performances at Llani 10s. With three games to play all the girls were looking forward to it.
First up were Caernarfon/Dolgellau combined, and it didn't take long for the girls to get into their stride and were 4 tries up in 8minutes, wholesale changes were made 6 subs on, but the performance held its intensity and four more tries came along. More pleasing was the defence, opposition forays into our half were few. Tries from Daisy, Jo x 2, Melissa (First ever rugby game), Rona, Lili.
Second game saw the hosts line up against us. From kick off our ball carriers ran straight and hard smashing holes at will, but again the defence was outstanding, whenever a Nant girl got the ball a swarm if red shirts descended on her, the counter rucking was ferocious, and the try count steadily mounted, Jo started the scoring Medi x 2, Lauren, Rona, Sarah and Elin followed with tries.
Last up were the combined Bala/Ravens side, who themselves had scored tries at will during the afternoon. Our Megan and Ffion volunteered to make them up to a full side. This was the closest game of the afternoon, two evenly matched tiring teams. Chloe settled the nerves gliding effortlessly passed 3 defenders to score by the sticks, closely followed by captain Nancy stepping through. But then the opposition had a large period of pressure, Megan barged over from a 5m tap penalty closely followed by Bala speedster Kate squeezing between Medi and the touchline to score in the corner. It was backs against the wall, but a fantastic piece of counter rucking by Sarah and Nia on our 22m saw Jo release Medi up the wing, and after a couple of phases Sarah stormed over for the winning score.
The girls again played to a consistent level, of course there are a lot of things to improve ..... quicker line speed, forward driving organisation, backs lying deeper, but it's such a good consistent base to work from.
