Tough start for the lions in Division 2
The opening Month of the season looks like a difficult one for the Lions as they embark on their Division 2 East campaign
September Fixtures:
The opening Month of the season looks like a difficult one for the Lions as they start life in division 2 East. First up on the 1st September is a battle between the two sides promoted as champions from Divisions 3 East and South East. Garndiffaith had a very impressive season and ended top of the tree in 3 East only losing 2 games all season. It will be a stern test for the Lions who themselves we’re the winners of the 3 South/East title.
Next up on the 8th Of September will be another promoted side from the 3 East divisions, Pill Harriers away. Those who have played in Pill before know it’s not an easy place to go and they don’t loose many at home. Sure Woody will be looking forward to heading back home as the head coach of an opposition team.
The following week see Nelson visit Usk road. Nelson were only one of two sides to beat the Lions last year, and were the only team to win at Usk road. Nelson were by far one of the strongest teams in the league last year and no doubt will be even stronger this season.
The 22nd September they travel to fleur de lys, a team the Lions have not played in recent history. After a difficult season last year “flower” are rebuilding and are promising to be there challenging for the honours at the end of the season.
Finally to end a hectic difficult opening September to the season, many people’s pre season favourites for the title Llantrisant visit Usk road. Llantrisant after being relegated from Division 1 East in the 2007/8 season have been one of the teams to watch in 2 East and consistently finished in the top half of the league. Although finishing in a disappointing 6th position last season and missing out on promotion, they finished 3rd the season before.
So it’s a testing first Month for the Lion’s and by the end of the Month we will have a fair idea of what lies ahead for the rest of the season. Please come and show your support as we embark on life in Division 2 East.
