Opening Day win
Firsts bounce back after slow start
Saturday saw the start of the league season with last season’s Central Wales Cup winners Aberaeron visiting the Tanat Valley.
Llan made the worst start possible and were behind inside 2 minutes. The visitors had started very brightly indeed and were looking sharp. Llan slowly fought their way back into the game – the midfield were slowly getting on top and the new strike pairing of Dan Graham
and Khyam Whytton looking busy.
On the half hour Llan drew level. The move started with left back Marc Griffiths
finding Khyam. He then went on a mazy 30 yard run and played the ball to Dan who rifled in from the edge of the box – an excellent all round goal. Despite Llan being in the ascendancy, the visitors still posed the threat on the break, and the back four and Connor needed to alert.
On 43 minutes Llan took the lead after a Joe Vaughan
cross was flicked in by Dan. The crowd felt that this was the turning point and we wold go on and win the game comfortably. The mood soon changed with Marc receiving his 2nd yellow within 5 minutes. There was now a nervousness amongst the supporters and the half time discussion was how we were going to cope against a strong Aberaeron team.
We needn’t have worried as the boys came out in determined manner and took the game to the visitors. We were in control of the game, but the next goal would be vital. On 70 minutes Khyam made a break down the right wing and the defender fell on the ball in the box and conceded a penalty. Dan calmly stepped up to drill the ball down the middle of the goal to complete his hat-trick – what a debut. The game was firmly put to bed 5 minutes later when Glenn Evans
drilled in a direct free kick from the edge of the box.
The biggest compliment I can give the boys is that you couldn’t tell who had 10 men. The second half performance was outstanding and if we continue in this manner we will be a force yet again this season.
