First Team v Bow Street

Chairman's Welcome

I would like to extend a warm welcome to today's visitors Bow Street here to the Recreation Ground. Last season I was very impressed with the young side that Bow Street had assembled and thought that they would be a real contender for the league this season. Early season results have been surprising with them having lost 4 fixtures already. However I am sure that we will need to be ar our best in order to get a positive result today. Croeso cynnes i'r Dyffryn Tanat.

Today's match sponsor is PHIL PLAS DU. Phil first came associated with the club in 2002 when we went on an end of season tour to Helensburgh. Phil took a full part in all activities on the tour and was the winner of the 'killer' pool tournament. Since Phil has played a full part in the running of the club and as you know he was the chairman for the past 6 years. Phil is regularly seen around the recreation ground cutting grass and tidying up but his main strength lies in the DIY jobs that we do around the ground. His 6" garden spade was a real asset in putting down the concrete slab for the stand! We are extremely grateful to Phil for his continued support of the club. Diolch yn fawr iawn.

A reminder that on Thursday next week that we are holding our monthly meeting in the Wynnstay - 8pm start. If you are interested please turn up and voice your opinion. The meeting are held on the first Thursday of the month throughout the year.

Running the club is a costly venture and we are always looking at fundraising ventures. Our next fundraising event is on Sunday 13th September at the Lake Vyrnwy half-marathon. As a club we are involved in the marshalling of the event. If you are willing to help in any way please let me know of your availability.

On the fixture front we have been drawn at away in the FAW Welsh Cup against Carno. This fixture will take place on Saturday 12th September - kick off is 2.00pm.

Both sides have played midweek fixtures this week and both have gained maximum points. I was unable to watch the reserves on Tuesday due to my bowling commitments, but by all accounts they put in a good performance and were worthy winners of the three points. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come for them and they will have gained something from last night's game at Caersws Reserves. It was also good to see the first team get back to winning ways on Wednesday against Montgomery. It was a commanding performance and once the first goal went in the players relaxed and played some excellent football.

Finally, I would like to wish both teams all the best for today's game and I hope that you enjoy the game. Thank you for your continued support.
