History

The Lockport Rugby Club was established in 1984 under the leadership of Rick Curry. Rick played college rugby at Brockport State and wanted to continue playing the game when he finished school. Rick didn't find many men with rugby experience back home in Lockport, but he would not be denied. He gathered a group of friends together and started out on his quest to create the Lockport Rugby Club.

In the early years, most of the club members were new to the game of rugby. The men worked hard to learn the game and quickly became a force within the NY State Rugby Conference (NYSRC). The club was a consistent participant in the NYSRC playoffs throughout the 1990's and won the NY State Championship in 2000. Many of the club founders retired in the years following the championship run and the club took on rebuilding efforts from 2004-2008.

The Lockport Rugby Club returned to the NYSRC playoffs in 2009. A return to the playoffs was a great way to end the club's 25th anniversary year. It was a great year that started off with a tour of Ireland in April 2009 to celebrate the milestone anniversary.

The Lockport Rugby Club has re-established itself as a contender within the NYSRC. With a solid core of veteran players and young experienced talent, the future certainly looks bright for the Lockport Rugby Club.
