Brixham Villa 1 Loddiswell AFC 3
'Hoops advance to dizzy heights in the Senior Cup'
Kingsbridge & Salcombe Gazette 2003
Smash and grab Loddiswell carried the zeal of the previous week's performance into their regional semi final of the Devon Senior Cup.
The Hoops endured an aerial bombardment for much of the first-half, but their pace in attack proved a real headache for the home-side. Loddiswell's direct approach seemed to unsettle Villa, typified by Lloyd Kaigia, whose sweet strike at the end of an absorbing first half, swung the game into Lodds favour.
Kaigia, better known to team-mates as the Kenyan cannon-ball, had turned provider for the opener; his low cross was met by Danny Stathers, whose shot hit the underside of the cross-bar before crossing the goal-line.[…]
Midfield spoilers Marc Drews and Sean Massingham were quick to the second ball and Neil Tucker was looking tenacious in attack. Winger Jamie Ivott's drive from the edge of the box rounded off the scoring for Lodds […] the summer signing kept his head for a text-book finish.
Brixham's consolation goal […] came after a wonderful finger-tip save from goalkeeper Rob Head. […] centre-backs Ritchie Hammett and Pete Anniss seemed well in control as Loddiswell refused to allow Villa any breathing space in the box.
The stakes are now upped for the Hoops as they enter the final stages of the county cup competition, together with fellow South Devon League representatives Newton '66.
