Cornish Out To Claim Play-Off Spot In Vital Game For Both Sides

There's a huge game at The REMPF on Saturday as London Cornish take on Tadley, who need to win in order to have any chance of remaining in Level 7.

"Cornish have an awful lot to play for in their final two league games."

However, it is not just 'The Tigers' who are desperate to record a victory to keep their season alive - 'The Exiles' still need at least a point in order to be assured of a place in the end of season London Two South promotion play-off.

Indeed, both sides know it is not as simple as "merely" recording a victory - Cornish need to pick up as many points as possible to ensure that they have the best opportunity of staging the play-off game at The REMPF. As London Two South-East is running with one side fewer that our own division this season due to Hayward's Heath's withdrawal, the team earning the highest percentage of points possible during the season will be the home side. Therefore Cornish have an awful lot to play for in their final two league games of the season as, although London Two South-East's current second placed side Medway play at a ground that is familiar to 'Exiles' supporters (it was there that a great number of London Cornish fans were present to see Cornwall defeat Kent in the County Championship group stage in 2013), it is always far more advantageous to be at home for a game which will decide promotion.

As for Tadley, they know that a bonus point victory is really required for them - along with the hope that Farnham are prevented from getting a result at Warlingham. A win for Old Reigatian at Portsmouth wouldn't do Tadley any harm either! So therefore, it is absolutely all to play for in front of what should be a decent REMPF crowd as the game coincides with our annual Vice President's Lunch, which will see a good number travelling up from God's Country for the game.

The encounter at Tadley on 13th December, saw Cornish build up a strong 35-8 first half lead with tries from Oli Low, Will Carew-Gibbs, Mark Osei-Tutu, Robin Heymann, and Matt Hakes. Luke Spells added all five conversions. The second half saw just one further score from Cornish - a second try from Mark Osei-Tutu, as the game ended 40-15 to the visitors. Personally, I have to say that this was probably my favourite away game of the season, mainly due to the incredible welcome and warmth that the officials and supporters of Tadley afforded us - the post match singing was fantastic, and they are a club who deserve success. Their strong Cornish links are also to be recognised - they play in Black and Gold because their founder Frank Jose of Camborne wanted the new team to play in the colours of his homeland. Kick-off as ever, is at 2:15pm.

The 2s will be looking to establish themselves in the top half of the Zoo Sports Shield Division Three when they host East Grinstead IIs on Saturday, in a game that kicks off at 2:00pm at The REMPF. Although the upwardly mobile Sussex side are two places above Cornish, the sides are only separated by four points and the Black and Golds are in marginally better recent form than East Grinstead.

The Choughs enter record-breaking territory on Saturday when they enter the Middlesex Merit Table Division One championship play-offs for the first time in their history. They visit the Honourable Artillery Company IIs for the semi-finals. The game kicks off at 2:00pm. This is going to be a tough test of The Choughs' mettle. HAC have only lost twice at home all season, and have recorded wins against Cornish both home and away - however, The Choughs are more than capable of extending their record breaking season for one final game. They will also be well aware of the fact that HAC lost their last home game to Chiswick - a side who travel to Rosslyn Park Bs for the other semi-final.

The Dukes are without a game until 18th April.

All in all, Saturday promises to be a huge day for all three of our sides in action - please make an effort to support the team home or away!
