Dukes beat Guildford to gain highest ever league position

The Dukes finished their season yesterday, beating a strong Guildford 3's side 34-15, in front of fantastic support from the wives and girlfriends!

Ged McHugh, Dan Drummond, Rob Mazur and Tom Rotherham were amongst the tries yesterday but the Man of the match performance came from Phil Studt as the Dukes came from behind twice to beat Guildford 34-15.

With a team heavily laden with "guest" players courtesy of the Pacific Islands via the British Army, Guildford had looked good value for their lead, however the Dukes forwards produced a display of titanic proportions and clawed the game back to allow the backs a run at the Guildford defence in the second half, with substitute Doug Phillips bringing a new influence to the game and hunting down the ball. Giles Dixon and Dave Arscott were huge in midfield and cut down attack after attack from our Fijian friends.

Tom Eckart, Dan Drummond and Phil Studt showed that it's not just backs that can tackle though, all three produced sublime performances and the pack played some of their best rugby of the season rumbling the ball up the park which lead to the first two Cornish tries.

All in all it was a fantastic result and this has been a good season ending in a 3rd placed finish in a competitive league. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Dukes players and thank them for their commitment, team spirit and positive attitude. Well Done fellas!

Team: Davidson, Studt, Wood, S Dixon (c), Linard, Drummond, Eckart, Beeby, Mazur, Klimcke, G Dixon, Brown, Rotherham, McHugh, Wyatt, Arscott, Thomsett, Ede, Smyth, Phillips.
