The lovely ladies of Eds Team 2 went down fighting against a strong Wanderers side. From the very beginning it became clear that without a goalie and no substitutes, things were going to be tough, as Wanderers put a goal away in the first 5 minutes. Eds rallied and kept their structure well: Bindi, Maryam and Tibbs in defence doing a good job of closing down shots and keeping the purple and yellow shirts wide. Bryony (on loan from Team 1) and Claire McAslan worked hard in midfield with Coxy and Mansfield up front. Despite a seam of good hockey throught, Wanderers kept piling on the pressure and went 2-0 up. Some good work saw Eds 2’s claw things back to 2-1 but it was unfortunate that they couldn’t make more of penalty corners. A rousing talk at half time seemed to do little to quell the current of Wanderers goals and they punted 5 past the Eds, who could respond with only another brace. The final score 7-3. With periods of good hockey shown, the Eds can take heart and must be feeling the sticks more keenly in their hands following the break of close season.
