Sat 10 Mar 15:00 - Surrey Ladies Hockey League - Premier Division Full time

London Eds 1 - 0 Richmond 1s

by Yas Lewis (Thank god we finally have a match report for this half of the season)

It was a late start for the Ladies 1's this week, taking on Richmond 1's at Bank of England.
The warm up saw balls pinging at Lauren in goal (welcome back!) and then we were off. We started strong, getting into the attacking D within minutes, only for Sophie Blair to be taken out, along with some hair pulling, preventing her from dribbling along the back line for what I can assume would have been a cross ball, top left goal... Game resumed with Kate MacArthur filling into the forward line, upping our quota of Scots on the pitch. The press remained strong throughout, constantly putting pressure on their defensive three, forcing Richmond to make errors. This error came from Muz's steal, executing her pass across the top of the D with precise timing to an eagerly waiting, but very composed Sophie to put it in the back of the goal. 1-0 Ed's.
The match continued with the same intensity, with Pip, Oli and Jo making some incredible interceptions and passes, only for Yas' lack of spatial awareness within the D to prevent the team from gaining a further lead. The second half pressed on with a diving tackle from Stritch, some exquisite tackles and teamwork from Katrin and Sabina (could have guessed you were sisters), and some lovely distribution and passing around the back with Susan, Kelly and Emily. A one on one tackle with Pip took a turn for the worse for Richmond's midfielder, showing a real battle of strength from our very own PT. The final whistle came after minutes of the Ed's defence distributing the ball with ease around the back and although opportunities were missed, it was a well fought, enjoyable and deserved win for the Ladies 1's.

  • MOM's went to Sophie Blair, Jo Tibbs and Emily Anderson
  • DOD went to Yas for her lack of spatial awareness in the D

"It was an absolute CORKER to watch - so so proud and SUCH a good game!"
- MJ Lee (10.3.18, 19:36pm )
