They say football can be cruel, Longbenton dominated this cup final, but missed chances and a goalkeeper denied them
In a exciting and excellent cup final which was a credit to the quality and standard of Tyneside Amature League, this was a unforgettable cup final. West Jesmond Division 1 Champions , 2 Cups and going for the quadruple where clear favorites . A penalty dubious or otherwise was awarded to West Jesmond after only 3 minutes. Scott Wiseman made a brilliant save only for the rebound to be scored 0 v 1 .
Domination of midfield had Longbenton chasing the game in attacking mode. Chances missed, west Jesmond keeper in excellent form brought a surprising 0 v 1 half time score.
Second half saw Longbenton attacking as before great saves from Peel and Morris by Jesmonds keeper retained the score line. Other missed chances and 3 attempts coming off the cross bar told the story. It was not to be Longbenton's day.
Over half way into the half Jesmond on the counter attack scored 2 goals in 5 minutes to seal the game. 0 v 3 . But still the bulls played quality football and attacked to the end, with JACK MORRIS heading a consolatuion goal in 79th minute.

Longbenton FC finish their season with a display to be proud of and subject to AGM approval start their new campagin in the Northern Alliance League next season
