A strong start to Junior Rugby
U13's first game of the season against Old Scout's was very much the classic game of 2 halves.
Scout's started strongly kicking deep and pinning Bucks back in their 22 but the boys managed to absorb the pressure and clear their lines.
Bucks then we're able to turn the tables and scored twice in quick succession. The ball was worked wide and Jacob H offloaded nicely to set Jacob S free for a strong run in to score.
Jacob S turned provider for Buck's second with a strong run before passing on to John to speed to the try line.
Buck's scrum was working well and comfortably winning their own ball and causing havoc on Scout's ball, which was very useful as there were a large number of handling errors.
Scouts got a try back shortly after with a short drive up the blind side. Daniel made a great effort to get under the ball in the tackle but Scouts player's momentum allowed him to get the ball down.
Bucks then worked their way back up the field and got to within touching distance of the line where Aidan spotted some space off the back of a ruck and dived over to score.
That was the last score of the half with Bucks 3-1 and looking in good shape.
Predictably Scouts game back strongly in the 2nd half with their rucking going up a gear or 2. Their second try was a great bit of individual skill as their full back collected a rather speculative kick from Daniel and then rounded both Sterling and Daniel before beating the cover to the corner. Injuries to Scouts started to mount up with one thundering tackle from David leaving everyone concerned for the lads health but credit to Scouts they shock off the knocks and played on to level the score.
The game then got very scrappy as both sides tired towards the end of a very competitive 50 minute game.
Overall a good team effort with the new members of the team slotting in well, plenty to work on but lots of positives.
The fixture was finished off with an excellent meal in the club house, many thanks to Keri, Laura and every one else who helped in the kitchen.
