One for the Hippo's?
Mud, glorious mud was the theme tune for today's friendly at Casuals.
After a bit of moving around we managed to find a bit of space at Casuals that wasn't ankle deep in mud to start with. The conditions and pitch size meant it wasn't going to be about free flowing rugby but a chance to work play in tight conditions. Bucks quickly established a lead with first Jack (2) and then Dan sniping off the back of rucks. The 4th score was made by Jacob, who held his support line out wide so that it was either a 2 on 1 with Jacob scoring or Dan holding on to score. Will M finished off a some good handling (especially given the conditions) to make it 0-5 at the break.
After a quick break Casuals came back into it and Bucks failed to continue where they left off though the try line wasn't breached. Jacob scored the only try for Bucks with a quick pickup and dive into space close to the line. Game 1 ended 0-6 to Buckby.
Game 2 and both the pitch and players were now a pretty uniform muddy brown with only the odd few players showing any clean kit. MJ was probably the cleanest Buckby player at this point but quickly fixed that with a cracking tackle straight into one of the biggest puddles!
Despite the mud there were some excellent tackling through out particularly from Will W, Jack FS and Dan. Will and Kally hit their stride with some powerful running for a score each, with Jacob and Felix both scoring good tries as well. Casuals threatened several times but were kept out for 4-0 at half time.
After a quick slurp of water play resumed. Bucks scored 3 more tries with Jack P powering over, Kally refusing to be stopped and showing great strength to score from half way and Dan turning provider with a neat offload to Will W. Casuals had the last word with a try at the death to ensure there was to clean sheet for Bucks, appropriate given the state of all players! 1-7 to Bucks
Well done to all players as there was some great play and especially pleasing handling.
