Long eaton 2’s v Ashfield 2’s
Long eaton 50 - Ashfield 0
Saturday 23rd September
Long Eaton 2nd XV Vs Ashfield 2nd XV.
In the build up to Long Eatons 2nd league fixture all the focus was on picking straight up from where we left off last week. Knowing that this week's opposition would be our toughest test to date both mentally and physically the trusted old heads in the dressing room did the job of rallying the troops.
As the game kicked off Long Eaton flew out of the blocks and soon found ourselves gaining ground with every phase, running perfect set pieces with basic handling the only thing to prevent the score. The first score came off the back of another crisp line out and drive with Tom Jowett the benefactor. This seemed to galvanise the blues and so the gates opened with great play moving the ball out wide giving young Brett Okeke the chance to run the ball in.
The quick reset from the blues and off we went again this time making good ground to the Ashfield 22 and not to be outdone by his brother big Bill Okeke crashed through to get his first senior try. Again not wanting to be outshone by his brother up stepped Brett again to get his 2nd for the game and 5th in two games (real star I think in the making). HALF TIME.
The message at half time be more clinical with the final pass and continue with the same mind set. And again we obliged with Ashfield unable to match us with our fitness and skill level the scores flowed in. Firstly Adam Geoghan seeing the gap and powering over from 5 out for his first try for Long Eaton followed by Larry Vickers scoring in the corner with his first touch of the ball. Seb Gundry showed some great footwork all game and was rewarded with his first try for the club under the posts. And the final score being provided by some twin magic down the wing with both Austin Mills and Adam Mills combining with Austin getting the score.
Add to that Sebs 5 conversion it made for a very good looking scoreboard.
FINAL SCORE: Long Eaton 2nd XV 50 Ashfield 2nd XV 0.
Two nil scores in as many weeks this 2nd team is going from strength to strength and competition for places is getting fierce.
On to next week boys and more of the same!
