Long Eaton Rugby's 1st XV faced strong and organised Market Rasen in their first home game of the new 2018/19 season on Saturday 15th September.
Slow out of the blocks, Long Eaton conceded 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the game as Rasen took the lead. LERFC then brought it back, dominating possession and territory throughout the rest of the second half. Only dogged determination and strong defence from Rasen kept them at bay.
This pattern continued throughout the second half, with a strong effort from Long Eaton failing to capitalise against a well organised Market Rasen defence. Points were scored by both sides but Rasen continued with the upper hand, scoring a break away try in the last play of the game.
Head Coach, Murray McConnell said: "Market Rasen are a good team who are pushing for promotion themselves so, today was always going to be a tough one. The scoreline didn't necessarily reflect Long Eaton's performance - we played some great rugby throughout the game. Our scrum and maul were pretty good and overall I'm feeling positive."
The final score was Long Eaton 12 - Market Rasen 30. Man of the match was awarded to Seb Gundry.
Long Eaton's 2nd XV also played at home against Market Rasen's strong second team. Playing with structure and continuing their recent run of robust performances, Long Eaton won the match 36-21. Following suit, the 3rd XV also saw victory, winning their match 38-14.
