Terry pratchet once said at the start of one of his books “pray you don't live in interesting times” well the Rilies seem to be bringing the word interesting to their teams performance. Ok i know they are not responsible as much as i am not responsible even though the last four goals did not go in till i left my place in the stand and took up my regular position behind the goal. I will remember this match more for what did not happen rather than what did. To start though a corner near the start of the match was meet by Rickford who headed home leaving us with the impression that this match was to be a white wash. Even their keeper looked out of place in fact ive seen JJ play better in goal in the half time warm up than he did, one point electing to knee the ball out when he could of easily of caught it. We did push for more goals and they did not look like they were going to get the ball in our area let alone our net though never say never but here is the point. First Rickford with a great little chip goal wards ten out of ten for style but nill pou as the ball hit the ground it went straight up not into the roof of the net but came off the bar. He then had a number of shots from outside the area not saying that came down with snow on (it was cold) but very near. We did get the ball finally in the net as a shot came in and their keeper right out of the JJ school of keeping let the ball come off his chest and bounce back to a player who slotted home. Cant really call as i was not in line but somehow the assistant saw an offside so the goal did not stand. The half finished in the same vane ok but i was scared they would get that lucky goal. About twenty five into the second half i moved behind the goal and then the flood gates opened as some great shots from outside the area beat the keeper two from Hallam who had only just come on and one from Jack Smith and one from Barton Rickford again after some great work saw the ball this time hit the post. So it finished 5 – 0 took a long time to finish it off but i bet not many remember the interesting parts just the result. A cup match then and progression to the next round sorry it took so long to post |
