United got back to winning ways on Saturday with a fantastic 5-1 victory against Gedling Southbank.
Having picked up 2 wins (Wollaton Hall 2-0 and Edwalton 4-0) and 2 draws the Blues were brought back down to earth last week, a 5-2 defeat in Basford against FC Cavaliers, having twice leveled the match.

In training the team discussed what went wrong in the match and how we would attempt to avoid the problems for the remaining games of the season and I was delighted in how the lads turned it around to pick up the points at Grange Park.

In most junior matches the first 10-15 minutes go a long way in deciding how the match will pan out, United took the game to Gedling and quickly found themselves a goal up, Brandon with his first of 3 strook a fine effort from 20 yards that the keeper couldn't reach to keep out and the home side were on their way.
Unfortunately they wouldn't be in front for long. A foul just outside the United box lead to a shot from Gedling into the left hand of goal, having looked like it was covered, a defender left the post and the ball flew in unchallanged 1-1.

The Blues didn't have to worry as the Gedling goal spurred the home side on and within 5 minutes they had retook the lead. Brandon seemed to have eaten his weetabix and was really on top of his game another bullet strike that looped over the keeper from his goal kick, shortly after Josh added to the tally with a low drive into the bottom right hand corner. United had the bit between their teeth and peppered the Gedling goal for the remaining minutes of the half, the pressure was rewarded shortly before the whistle when Brandon once again let fly from just inside the Gedling half to grab his hattrick. The half time whistle went and United were 4-1 to the good.

The second started and Gedling came back into it, in particular the Southbank keeper who began to frustrate the homeside with excellent saves. Midway through the 2nd period an attack started out on the right with Josh - an excellent cross found Calum S, who fired in a shot at the on rushing keeper, the shot was blocked and came out to Harjodh who also connected well, again the Gedling keeper wasn't going to be beaten, both Josh and Brandon all had attempts saved in that 20 second spell.

With 8 minutes left Josh sprinted down the right and cut inside a defender - shot just outside the box, the ball hit the underside of the netting but bounced back down out side of the goal, strangly the ref allowed play to go on and the danger was cleared. Josh wasn't going to dwell on this and the scoring was complete shortly after with another well taken goal low to the right of the keeper. FT United 5-1 Gedling.

As we look towards the end of the season United have 3 games remaining, all at home. Firstly a very tough encounter with Bestwood who beat the Blues 4-0 at their place and sit 3rd in the league. The penultimate game is Mid April against Edwalton Cavaliers before the season draws to a close on Monday the 16th versus West Bridgford Magpies.

Good signs all around the team as United are in the top half of the form table and look to finish the season on a high.

onwards and upwards!
