Long Eaton United beat Westfields 2-1 last night (agg 2-2). United win on away goals.

The Blues are in the Polymac Packaging League Cup Final having won through against Westfields FC.

Fields had taken a 1-0 lead into the second leg having beaten the Blues at Grange Park from a Tom Bendall volley 10 minutes into the tie.

At AllPay Park, Herefordshire, United started well but were hit with a break away leading to Jamie Cuss centering for Luke Griffiths to slot home.
It wasn't the start the Blues would have wanted but they kept their shape and throughout the half got closer to levelling.

Rickford got close, shooting well after great work between Cooper-Richards and Hollis set up the striker. The Westfields goalkeeper saved well.

Midway through the first United were putting the pressure on when Ross Parker sent in a cross under the bar, the keeper tipping it over. From the corner Hollis crossed, Parker flicking on and Rickford headed against the bar, Westfields cleared the danger.

As half got towards the break Westfields had a good period of play and a shot was saved on the line by low and cleared up field. It was United's turn to break and Rickford went close again this time heading narrowly wide.

On the stroke of half time the Blues had a deserved equaliser. Another excellent corner was knocked on by Parker, Chris Jones had got into the right place and stabbed the ball in to the back of the net.

The second was only 8 minutes old when United took the lead. A back pass was adjudged to have been made by the Westfields defence and from the resulting free-kick Parker flicked in past the keeper.

As expected the homeside pushed but the Blues restricted their efforts on goal.

It became a very tense and nervy final quarter of an hour but manager Palmer made some great tactical substitutions which freshened things up and the Blues held out to the final whistle.

The result means the tie over the two legs was 2-2 however as United scored 2 away goals they progress to the final.

The final itself will be held at The Bescot Stadium, Walsall FC (Date TBC). United's opponents are not yet known as Coleshill v Rocester was postponed on the same night. The Romans lead the tie 1-0 going into the 2nd leg.
