LONGLEVENS 15 CHELTENHAM CIVIL SERVICE 0
LONGLEVENS were looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss to Bream in their previous outing.
However, they knew it would not be easy against a side who took points off them home and away last season.
Both defences started well as Longlevens and Service battled for territory and possession.
The home side that dominated at the set piece, with Gavin Stokes and Danny Pitt having the better of their opposite numbers in the scum.
However, a dramatic twist after 15 minutes saw second row Mark Hancok sent-off for stamping at the ruck.
But the home side dug deep and knew as long as the remaining forwards could compete and give their speedy backs ball, they could still take something from the game.
Longlevens' forwards did not disappoint and led by Jeff Hodges they dug deep and were rewarded for their efforts when Sam Smith created space out wide to send winger Harry Yorkie crashing over in the corner.
Peer missed the extras, but that only inspired Longlevens to attack.
And within five minutes pressure on the Service back line saw loose ball collected by Sam Smith.
He jinked his way over under the posts, and with Peer adding the extras, 14-man Longlevens went into the half-time interval 12-0 ahead.
A dominant second-half showing rarely saw the visitors in the home side's 22.
Longlevens were unlucky not to extend their lead with Harry Yorkie crossing, only for the referee to spot a forward pass.
Luke Peer successfully landed one of two penatly attempts to put Longlevens 15-0 up and the game out of reach from Service.
Longlevens now head to bottom side Cotham Park in high spirits, especially with the welcome return of flanker Louis Spencer from injury who is likely to push for a place in the side.
