WRENS SUFFER 6 POINT DEDUCTION

"We were aware of this impending deduction before Saturdays game...."
- Longridge Town FC

Longridge Town's 3 point title winning margin in the West Lancashire League Premier Division has been increased to 9 points, after rivals Blackpool Wren Rovers suffered a points deduction earlier today for playing an ineligible player.

The offence dates back to a game against Thornton Cleveleys in early April, which Wrens won 5-1.

A Town source commented, " We were aware of this impending deduction before Saturday's game, and also that Wrens had subjected a second appeal against the punishment. It probably worked in our favour to be honest, because we wanted to be able to win it fair and square out on the pitch, and to be able to celebrate accordingly. It would have taken the edge off the victory if we had learnt of it by a phone call or email from the League."

The final table now shows Longridge finishing on 83 points from a possible 96, with Wren Rovers still in the Runners Up spot 9 points adrift on 74.

Town will officially be presented with the Trophy on June 10th at the West Lancashire League Annual Awards Dinner at Bloomfield Road, home of Blackpool FC.
