“I missed the home draw with Sheffield on the Saturday before Christmas as I was ill, but I’m told it was a match we should have won, we just couldn’t take our chances on the day.
“The away game at Gresley on Boxing Day was a big disappointment. I thought it was a game we should have taken something out of, but we just didn’t perform, we were really poor. The conditions were difficult and we should be able to adapt, but we didn’t on the day.
“We needed a reaction on our trip to Leek. I made a couple of changes and we played so much better. I felt our performance was worthy of us taking a point out of the game. We had chances to do just that, but we didn’t take them.
“Our home game on New Year’s Day against Basford United was always going to be difficult. They are runaway leaders of the division. The dampener on the match was the unfortunate injury to Basford’s Matt Thornhill. We missed two good chances either side of their opening goal, and we gifted them a second one. We’ve conceded some silly goals this season, and we really need to cut that out".
