Dynamo started well and Jamie Clarke shot over and a Matt Langham effort was blocked as Dynamo exerted early pressure. Dynamo’s best move of the first period came after 20 mins when a surging run by Danny Jenno led to a pass inside to Clarke who flicked to Langham who in turn set up Reece Lester, unfortunately the shot flying just over the bar. A fine run by Jacob Blackwell ended in with the winger winning a free kick which failed to trouble the Athletic custodian. It took Kidsgrove 37 mins to register their first effort on goal when Karl Charlton turned and shot producing a Laurie Pearson save at the expense of a corner. However, only four minutes later and Kidsgrove took the lead when Danny Griggs was allowed too much space and time to run across the Dynamo back line and curl a shot past the diving Pearson. Dynamo responded well and Blackwell set up Lesterwhose shot was saved by Adam Wilkes ending the first period.

The second period started brightly and Kidsgrove had the ball in the back of the net on 47mins only for the 20/20 vision of the linesman to rule it out for a prior offside infringement much to the annoyance of the native following. The remainder of the period became a dour affair with neither side creating a clear cut chance. A Danny Gibbons header was easily collected by Wilkes and as Dynamo pushed forward in search of an equaliser Ross Davidson went close for Kidsgrove. The final whistle bringing an end to an unimpressive Dynamo display.
