Sheffield FC 2-2 Loughborough Dynamo
Dynamo secure a deserved away point at Sheffield
After a dreadful start to the first period Dynamo can consider themselves unlucky not to have taken all three points after dominating play for large parts of this game.
Dynamo were forced into a change before kick-off when Carl Sibson pulled up during warm up and was replaced by Danny Quinn. The game was only 30 seconds old when Richard Humphreys caught Dynamo napping with a quick free kick and Andrew Gascoigne rifled the ball past Scott Wardley to give Sheffield the perfect start. A poor clearance by Dynamo fell to Leslie Sackey whose speculative shot from fully 35yds was high and wide. Dynamo came back strongly and equalised after 9 mins. Luke Thorogood released Tom Rigby down Dynamo's right and the full back produced the perfect cross for Danny Quinn to head past Brett Scouter. Humphreys and Derry Robson then produced a good move for Sheffield, the shot prevented by a superb tackle by Jack Andrews. Ash Hodgkinson then headed wide following a free kick by Louis Keenan. Back came Sheffield and good interchange play by Ben Algar, James Gregory put Jack Mawson through on goal, the linesman flag intervening this flowing move. Dynamo's Alistair Smith then jinked his way past two/three Sheffield defenders before unleashing a shot which was well taken by Souter. Dynamo continued to press forward and Andrews headed over from a corner and Paolo Piliero produced a fine through ball for Luke Smithson who unfortunately overran the ball. On 41 mins and against the run of play Sheffield took the lead with a superb strike from just inside the Dynamo half. A poor clearance by Wardley fell kindly to Gascoigne who returned the ball with interest from ~45 yds to give Sheffield a half time lead. Quinn then nearly equalised for Dynamo when his shot clipped the upright with Souter beaten.
Sheffield started the second period strongly and both Sackey and Gascoigne had shots saved. Dynamo then started to dominate with some excellent passing football. Keenan had the best chance to equalise on 56 mins but headed over from 4yds out when well placed. Dynamo were not to be denied and Thorogood again produced a great ball for Rigby to overlap and deliver a cross which was dispatched by Smithson for Dynamo deserved equaliser. Dynamo continued to press forward in search of the winner and one/two between Keenan and Smith let the latter through, his cross/shot was blocked for a corner which came to nothing. Rigby produced another telling cross and Thorogood's header drifted narrowly wide. Gascoigne, looking for his hat trick, beat two players before his well hit shot was blocked by Hodgkinson. A Thorogood corner was cleared to Jared Holmes about 20 yds out, great control execution not so good as his shot flew high over Souter's crossbar. Dynamo's last chance fell to Smithson in injury time following a good ball by Smith his shot was narrowly wide. The referee 's whistle then ending this encounter.
