LOUGHOR V MUMBLES

Local rival Mumbles visited the Villa for the first round of the cup and the game was to follow the same pattern as the identical fixture the previous season.

Loughor started well through their forwards with no 8 Dan Howells prominent for Joel Thompson and Peter Francis to crash over for tries converted by the dependable Andrew Williams. Loughor dominated the first half and should have scored more but for basic errors and mistakes, the second half the tide turned and Mumbles were by far the superior team scoring throught their no 8 Jordan Thomas and Andrew Claypole converting the try and landing four penalties. Loughor struggled in the second period relying on individual performances more than team work with Williams landing 4 penalties to amass 18 sucessful kicks in succession, and forwards Howells, Thompson, Rhys Bowen and Rhys luckwell in outstanding form with Luckwell unlucky not to score a 60 metre try in a strong back row combination with utility forward Rhys Corcoran playing at flanker.

Loughor did enough to win the game but were made to fight for every ball and struggled to overcome the young Mumbles side. Maybe a good wake up call before the visit to high flying Cwmllynfell.

The second team fixture unfortunately was cancelled once again.
