With a run of poor results recently Lowestoft reshuffled to play a new formation in preparation for a drop down from the East Premier Division next season.
From the very first whistle the home side attacked which resulted in the keeper making a save from Nic Pollard. On 3 minutes Lowestoft were in front when a cracking pass out of defence from Hannah Nunn found Katie Hands on the right wing whose drive to the goal line saw a decent cut back to Hannah Pickess whose first attempt was blocked but made no mistake second time round to find the back of the net. Lowestoft were now swarming all over an Ipswich side that had a mixture of youth and experience and the new formation allowed for short pass hockey. Although this was not the case on 7 minutes when a clearance out of defence saw the ball run into open pitch and a full length sprint by Hannah P kept the ball in play and showed great composure to beat a defender and pick out Katie in the D who couldn’t fail to finish to extend the lead. A brilliant cross field ball from Charlotte Bond found an advancing Jess Holland who took the ball on to shoot just wide. Ipswich were getting to grips with the pace of the game and pulled a goal back on 20 minutes with a run straight through the middle unopposed. Jo Pilbrow managed to save the first shot but was helpless when Ipswich got a second bite of the cherry. Lowestoft rallied and piled on the pressure keeping the ball within the Ipswich half. On 32 minutes a defence splitting pass from Chloe McMorran found Nic in space who flicked the ball to Hannah P whose first time shot flashed wide. Another pin point cross field ball from Charlotte found Jess breezing into the D and winning a short corner which saw Charlotte’s strike saved by the keeper but Nic was on hand to flick over the keeper to send Lowestoft in 3-1 up at half time.
With the rain pouring down the second half saw a more even affair with few chances for either team. On 40 minutes Ipswich had a chance to get back into the game when awarded a short corner but excellent shutting down from Alex Bond thwarted the danger. Five miniutes later it was Lowestoft’s turn to kill the game off when after a good passage of play they were awarded a short corner but Charlotte’s shot was well saved by the keeper and the defence cleared. A super run from Amy Vallis saw her pass find Katie drifting into a goal scoring position but Ipswich managed to clear. Lowestoft sealed the points on 55 minutes when a right wing maizie and cross from Katie saw the keeper half clear and Hannah P was on hand to slot the ball home for 4-1. With Lowestoft running out of steam the last 15 minutes saw Ipswich awarded a couple of short corners which Lowestoft defended stoutly to protect their lead.
