From first push back both teams showed that only one result was wanted – a win. Consequently the hockey fast paced. With around 20 minutes on the clock a Thetford player broke at lightning speed down the right wing, fired the ball the waiting stick of a fellow team mate and slotted the ball through the Railway keeper’s feet. Possession was 50/50, so it was unsurprising that Railway were able to work the ball up the pitch and into the Thetford D. Further pressure resulted in the award of several short corners, one of which was expertly slotted home by Kat Oldman. The teams went in all level at 1-1 at half time.
The start of the second half saw Railway drop the pace with devastating consequences. Thetford began to camp out in the Railway D. After a sensational save by Beckie Edmeades Thetford were awarded a short corner. After a bluffed first shot, the second attempt took a killer deflection from a Railway stick and the ball flew into the top right corner. Although Railway were able to up the pace with wingers Jess Newnham
and Claire Scrivener darting down both wings, Railway could not make it passed the strong Thetford defence.
Before the final whistle Thetford were able to sneak a third goal taking the final score line to 3-1.
After a difficult season which saw Railway loose numerous players they find themselves bottom of the league after the final game. The entire squad is hoping that the 2012-2013 season will bring more good fortune!
