Lowestoft Railway Ladies First Team 2 – Beccles 3
With just two games remaining of the season and with Railway desperate for points, they started the match knowing that three points were essential. Unfortunately the desire for a win was not enough to beat a strong Beccles line up.
Beccles won the first push back and were immediately on the offensive. Railway quickly found themselves 2-0 down to two well executed Beccles goals. Railway fought back though, and by half time they had pulled one goal back with a goal mouth scramble which saw Hannah Atkins pushing the ball past the Beccles goal keeper and across the line.
Railway started the second half positively with Claire Scrivener and Jess Newnham making penetrative runs down both wings. But, each Railway attack was followed by a Beccles attack. Railway goalkeeper, Beckie Edmeades, had to make numerous sensational saves to keep Railway in the game. Railway pressure soon paid off with the midfield of Kat Oldman and Jo Pallant working well with the upfront partnership of Hannah Atkin and Megan McKinnon. Atkin once more slotted the ball past the Beccles goalkeeper to level the scores.
Unfortunately Railway could not hold onto the draw, and with 10 minutes remaining Beccles were awarded a short corner which was fired in form the top of the D and past the goal line defence. Although Railway continued to press forward, they could not find the final pass into the D. Railway left the pitch at the end of the match heavy with the knowledge that they will most likely now be playing Division 1 hockey next season.
