Lowestoft Railway Ladies 1 1vs Norwich City 3s 4
Lowestoft Railway Ladies 1 vs Norwich City 3s
Railway arrived at City’s home ground feeling uncertain, due to a lack of keeper for the first half! After much deliberation, despite no goal keeping experience, Becky Ingles, in great team spirit, put herself forward.
As pushback was undertaken, Railway worked hard, with much of the possession observed as equal. The midfielders Claire Ward, Kelly Martin, Sharon Chatfield, and Charlotte Soanes worked continually in order to create chances for forwards Claire Scrivener, Becky Howes and Kiri Phoenix. Sadly Railway were denied chances, due to facing a strong defensive City side. Railway began to tire due a lack of substitution relief. The Railway defence of Katie Cross, Jan Tizzard and Lily Collins worked solidly, with Collins sliding across the floor, with a perfect tackle to prevent opportunities for City. Sadly, despite the teams efforts as a whole, City were able to bring the scoreline to 3-0, in their favour prior to half time.
The second half saw a physically tired, yet relieved Railway due to Kerri Burwood’s return as keeper. With both sides slipping and sliding on the wet surface, Railway were back to their usual positions. Ingles returning to her efficient play as a left half. Burwood made numerous saves from penalty corners and the team continued to press and work hard.
Things began to look up after a fantastically placed ball from Chatfield to Scrivener, resulting in a firm injection of the ball to Phoenix where she was able to lift the ball over the keeper, taking the score to 3-1.
Frustratingly, after a restored normality for the Railway side, City went on to only convert 1 further goal, with the final result being 4-1 to City.
