Ipswich & East Suffolk V. 4 - Lowestoft Railway II 0
Disappointing Afternoon for Railway
Railway travelled to Ipswich with a depleted squad with several players unavailable for this game. The most notable omission was not having a recognised striker and goalscorer to call upon.
Predictably, Railway found themselves on the back foot for large periods of game and were 3-0 by the break, with nobody up front able to hold on to the ball for long enough for support to arrive and ease the pressure.
The visitors rallied slightly in the second period and restricted IES to only one further goal.
All the Ipswich goals came from their experienced and skilful forward, but he was assisted by some slack defending for a couple of the goals.
The game was a good opportunity for Railway newcomer Carl Rix and youngsters Tom Bowles and Mikey Cookson to gain some valuable experience of league hockey. All three took their chance by putting in strong performances, particularly in the second half.
