Meet the new senior coaching team.

L&Y's management have acted swiftly to get the club's 1stXV back on track as soon as possible following recent turmoil. They have turned to three former 1stXV captains to help out with coaching for the next phase of the clubs future following recent turmoil. Former assistant coach Tim Marshall will add to his vital community coaching role amongst local schools and colleges by taking over at the head of the tree. Tim will be starting his RFU level 3 in the near future and provides the consistency and enthusiasm needed to plan and coordinate the path back to winning ways.

Helping out in assistant roles will be former senior Head Coach and recent Colts and u16 coach, Steve Durrant, who specialises in forward and set-piece play being an ex-County second row, but has wide experience throughout all aspects of the game. Welcomed back to the club is former 1stXV captain and Eastern Counties prop, Wayne Nixon, who will bring his vast experience, skill and coaching acumen to specialise in the scrummage, breakdown and defence. Further help will also come from Matt Jary, another former 1stXV captain and coach, who will be looking to assist with skills and back play.

On top of these appointments, interim Directors of Rugby, Gary Cooper and Danny Simmons, who have both held the position in previous years, are now making moves to fill further roles in the backroom staff where there is current cover but they are seeking more permanent appointments. These include the following:

  • physiotherapist and match-day strapping and first aider,
  • strength & conditioning coach,
  • dedicated team managers for the 1stXV and DevelopmentXV

Anyone interested in any of the posts should contact Danny or Gary for more information.

The good news on the playing front is that training numbers are already increasing each Tuesday and Thursday evening at 7pm. A number of regular 1stXV players will again become available in the coming weeks as work, family and injury problems ease, meaning that the side hopes to start making up for the three spirited but embarassing defeats they have recently suffered.

New members are always welcome whether to play, support or volunteer. With three senior teams there is a playing opportunity for any experience. There are also teams at each age group from under 7 to under 17 for younger players. Contact Gary Cooper for more details.
