A superb morning of fun at Gunton Park with the Webb Ellis Trophy

After an early morning visit to Ness Point in Lowestoft, the Webb Ellis Cup and its entourage of Land Rover sponsored vehicles, made its way to Gunton Park to spend the morning being admired and having photos taken with hundreds of rugby fans from the area.

As part of the England tour prior to Septembers start of RWC2015, L&Y were chosen to host the Trophy as England's most Easterly club. Despite all the local clubs being invited along to the event, the excellent turn-out was mainly locals and club members who all got a chance to have a shot with the cup then enjoy the exhibition touch games and stalls around the park. Teams from L&Y's Youth and Minis sections played some high octane rugby, while others marvelled at the golden cup and its custom-made Land Rover Defender.

Officials from the RFU, the Eastern Counties Rugby Union, the Referees Society and Press, Radio and TV were all there. New club President Danny Steel excelled himself as figurehead for the club and TV personality. Thanks must go to all at L&Y who helped out preparing for the day and during the event, particularly Paul Gibson
and Yvonne Titterington who organised everything.

To think that in a few weeks teams from all over the world featuring the best players on the planet will be hell-bent on lifting that very same Trophy was quite incredible. Not to mention the history of past events, including Nelson Mandela handing it to Francois Pienaar in 1995, or Martin Johnson and Jonny Wilkinson lifting it in 2003. It truly was a special privilege to see it up close, and an excellent day for our little club.
