Ludlow began their league season in the best possible way with a thumping 7-66 win at Telford on Saturday with forwards and backs combining in a vintage performance. Many thanks to those who braved the rain to cheer them on.
Woods man of the match was Will Sparrow, well deserved for some very unselfish play as he turned provider on several occasions enabling the backs to play with a fluency other teams would long for! Full report and pictures on the club's Facebook page.
The seconds fared less well going down 55-17 against Hereford but after facing a bit of an onslaught in the first half managed to draw the second half of the game. However they tell me they thoroughly enjoyed themselves which bodes well for the squad.
We had an extremely busy weekend at the club parking campers and caravanners and, for the first time providing a disabled car park and shuttle bus service to and from the Food Festival. Our volunteers provided breakfasts and laid on a really good night of entertainment courtesy of Lawrie Wallace's son, Andrew. He put a lot of energy into a superb and very versatile performance which was the talk of our guests on the minibus shuttle the following morning. My sincere thanks to all those who volunteered and helped swell club funds.
This weekend sees us entertain Veseyans at my chairman's day on Saturday. Lunch is 12.30 for 1 pm and we can probably still squeeze a few in but I must know by Tuesday for catering purposes.
Sunday is the big cycling festival and our community day. There will be touch rugby in the afternoon and the Ludlow Concert Band which practises in our clubhouse will be playing from 1pm.
Our quiz, organised by Lanyon Bowdler, at Ludlow Brewery is on Thursday, September 20. 6.30pm. There is still time to enter a team. Pick up a form at The Clubhouse when you come down to watch our game on Saturday. Kick off 3pm.
The next round of the Midlands Cup will see us at Shrewsbury on September 22.
