Latest Match Report Ludlow vs Bedworth
Ludlow back to winning in style!!
LUDLOW’s rugby men can breathe more easily in their fight for Midlands One West survival after recording a thumping 66-3 win over struggling Bedworth.
Having been dragged back into relegation danger following a couple of emphatic defeats, Saturday’s victory was just what the doctor ordered as the Linney men moved five points clear of the drop zone.
And with basement rivals Whitchurch and Kenilworth both losing, Ludlow cashed in with nine tries, eight coming in the second period.
“After the last two results (in which Ludllow shipped in 180 points), I would have settled for a three point win on Saturday,” said spokesman Phil Norton. “So to win so emphatically is really good, particularly for the players
“It shows the difference between the teams and the top and those at the bottom.
“One more win should be enough to make us safe, while two wins will certainly guarantee safety.”
Bedworth had led with a penalty before Will Norton levelled with in similar fashion, before a fine try from fullback Joe Doyle under the posts just before half time gave Ludlow the lead, Norton converting.
And with a number of players returning to fitness and their best form, Ludlow surged clear in the second period to record their biggest win of the season.
Mark Williams, back at fly half, then went over for a fine individual effort, the first of his two tries, while there were also two touchdowns from winger Will Sparrow.
There was one try from impressive No8 Russell Jones, who constantly got over the gain line with his ball carrying in a man-of-the-match display.
The tries kept coming with Sam Wilkes, second row Darren Brick and flanker Tom Rawlings also crossing, all of which were converted by Will Norton who finished with 21 points with the boot.
Ludlow have no action this weekend, before looking to continue their push to safety at Camp Hill the following Saturday.
