Ludlow vs Dunlop report

Ludlow finish the season on a high, at the expense of poor old Dunlop,i can't believe the season's finished already! Congratulations for staying up, (nice to finish above Camp Hill!) well done everyone.

HAVING survived in Midlands One West, Ludlow’s rugby players are in positive mood – but cannot afford to rest on their laurels as they look to build for next season.
The mission at the start of the campaign was to survive, and their status was assured even before their last-day 76-7 home rout of Dunlop.
Having achieved survival, they are wary that next year’s league could prove tougher with the whipping boys of Dunlop and Bedworth having dropped out, while the inclusion of the likes of Hereford and Stoke will provide sterner tests.
However, spokesman Phil Norton hailed a “job done”, adding: “Having come up from Midlands Two West North last year, our ambition as the start of the season was to stay in the league which we have done.
“What we didn’t want was to come up like Bridgnorth did a few years ago, and come straight back down again.
“It would have been nice to be more mid-table but when you look back there were two or three games we should have won during the season which would have made a difference.
“I think we’ve learned a lot during the season and we’ll be looking to build on what we have achieved.
“If we can get our best team out every week we’d be mid-table, but we’ve got to enlarge the squad for next season.”
Ludlow rounded off a difficult season in style with a dominant 76-7 victory at home to Dunlop last Saturday – the win meaning they finished fifth from bottom.
The home side, which had flirted with relegation in the latter stages of the campaign, ran in 12 tries and eight conversions against the division’s bottom team to secure maximum points.
Joe Doyle led the scoring for Ludlow with a hat-trick of tries while Theo Hodnett, James Tyrell and Sam Wilkes all touched down twice. Mark Williams, Tom Rawlings, and Ollie James added a try each and the boot of Will Norton added the conversion.
• Gloucester and England fullback Ollie Morgan will be special guest at Ludlow’s presentation night and dinner at the Linney on Friday, May 18.
