This invitation game proved to be a great test for the Lutterworth U13’s as they came up against a formidable Old Scouts team who were both physically large and an excellent rugby playing team. In fact Old Scouts were possibly the best team Lutterworth had faced this season and Lutterworth did well to keep in the game for so long but eventually coming out 39-17 losers.
The start of the game was contested in the middle of the park but eventually Old Scouts seized the first try with ball along an excellent backs division and breaking through on the left hand side of the field.
Lutterworth responded well and got themselves on level terms after some strong forward play and good rucking allowed good ball to be moved along the backs for Joe Anderson to score a good try on the right hand side of the pitch.
Old Scouts continued to pressurize the Lutterworth line and Lutterworth’s determined defence held until Old Scouts eventually managed to go over to make it 10-5 to Old Scouts at half time.
Unfortunately a quick Old Scouts try just into the second half put Lutterworth on the back foot again. It was to Lutterworth’s credit that they fought back yet again through some good forward play, a typical pick-up from the scrum by Jacob Tivey, a off load to Ryan Cox who had some work to do but finished it off in style to make the score line 15-10.
Old Scouts then had a period of dominance where their excellent backs division exposed Lutterworth’s tackling and managed to run in 3 tries, two of which were converted to make the score 34-10.
Lutterworth kept at it and proved again that when they played the Rugby in Old Scouts half, they could threaten the Old Scouts line by playing some really good Rugby. From this pressure, a resultant penalty was carried over by Jacob Tivey which was converted by Nick Tosh.
Old Scouts reasserted themselves with a last try to make the final score an emphatic 39-17 to Old Scouts.
Old Scouts proved to be the best team Lutterworth had played this season; they were a strong well coached team with some very good individual players. To Lutterworth U13’s credit they battled throughout the entire game playing some very good Rugby at times.
Congratulations to Old Scouts and Well Done to all the Lutterworth lads who were a credit to themselves in the way they continued to compete until the end of the game.
