Lydney grabbed a second half winner in a typical end of season game against bottom of the table Trowbridge Town on Saturday. After bossing the early exchanges Lydney found themselves a goal on 10 minutes. When a Lydney attack broke down, the ball was played out wide to Ashley Palmer who's effort on goal was parried out by Thomas only for Jake Sainsbury to tap home from 6 yards. Lydney immediately went back up the other end and had two attempts on goal blocked by defenders, before Liddington was just beaten to the ball by keeper Elliott when a backpass dropped short. The visitors held their nerve and very nearly increased the lead on 40 minutes when Thomas made a superb one handed save from a freekick. The last action of the half saw Lydney draw level. The ball was deflected off a defender for a corner and Ricky Elliott's kick deceived everyone and the ball sailed inside the far post.
The first minute in the second half saw Danny Clarke's cross fall for Liddington who's shot was blocked and then Mark Lee fired the rebound over the top. Jon Kear then replaced Lee and Town went in front after 65 minutes. Some neat work down the right flank by Ross Scott saw his cross knocked down by Liddington for Danny Clarke to fire home a low volley inside the far post. Lydney controlled the game after the goal and should have added to the scoreline. Steve Jones and Declan Morley Lyne replaced Ross Scott and Jarred Liddington for the last quarter of the game but Lydney failed to find the net from the many chances created.
