A 30-15 win over visitors Winchester 3rds meant, not only a clean sheet so far for the season, but a home win record which has run for over a year.

Things didn't go immediately to plan though with the non-appearance of a referee! This prompted a later start with Mariner’s coach, Chris Rodway, stepping up to the mark to do the honours. Ten minutes in and it was looking like it was going to be a tough day at the office for the Mariners who conceded just as many points as it had taken Winchester the time to get them. Despite this, the Mariners quickly adapted to pull back a try of their own after some stubborn defense to combat some of their, frankly, monstrous runners. Full-back Tom Jenvey converted the try to bring Lymington back within 3 points. By the half time whistle, 2 more tries had been scored - one each, neither converted. Half time 12-15.

After the break, Mariners were well aware that they were going to have to work hard for a win as Winchester continued to send their big runners through the middle. This, however, proved to be the wrong choice for them though as centre, Freddie Lawder, was in a particularly feisty defensive mood.

Despite the unrelenting onslaught, showing great character, the Mariners refused to give up and were able to conjure up 3 more tries (2 by the cameo king, Jamie 'soon to be castrated by his girlfriend' Banasik) built on some strong forward play, particularly at scrum-time, coupled with some magic in the backs. Added to this was a penalty to tie the game up in the host's favour. At the final whistle, an exhausted yet jubilant team celebrated a win that was closer fought than the scoreline would suggest. Final score: 30-15.

Whilst the whole team deserve recognition for a hard earned win, this week’s Rivaaz Man of The Match goes to Freddie Lawder for his passion and work rate throughout the match.
