This year's annual trip to Blackpool Hockey Festival by the mixed squad proved to be Macclesfield's most successful to date. They finished a very respectable 3rd out of 24 teams in the hockey tournament, despite conceding only 1 goal all weekend and 3rd in the hotly contested fancy dress competition.
Games were played at Stanley Park and Bispham College on astro turf and a tough going grass pitch. Macclesfield played some lovely hockey throughout the tournament and secured the 3rd place spot by winning a penalty shoot out against Shrewsbury on the final day.
The squad included 23 members from across the club and for some players it was their 9th festival in as many years.
With the team name 'Hockily Ever After...' the players dressed as fairytale characters for the infamous fancy dress competition with some incredible outfits on display which were rewarded with a crate of beer for all to enjoy.
It was a fantastic weekend had by all despite hangovers, empty wallets and severe fatigue. The whole squad and all the supporters represented the club in an exemplary manner So much so that they were awarded this year's 'Bunny Wain Fair Play Award'. This trophy goes to the team that the umpires feel have had fun whilst playing good hockey and embracing the festival spirit. It's a great honour to win this award and the Macclesfield name has been engraved on the trophy that resides in the Blackpool Club house for all to see. A plate has been given to the club for the trophy cabinet as a memento. This will be placed into the cabinet at the Cricket Club once it has been presented to the player of the tour at the Annual Dinner.
