With several teams moving up leagues, Tigers once again met the mighty Tameside Blues in their first 9/10/11 league fixture.
A shortage of Tigers players today pulled on the resources of the Pumas who were themselves without a fixture. Traditionally always a tough match against a well drilled Tameside, the girls knew what lay ahead when the first whistle blew. The first quarter started fast with end to end play from both teams with the Tigers notching up the first goal. Tameside soon got into their stride replying with two quick goals. Both teams had some rushed play forcing unnecessary errors at both ends. The Tigers starting getting into their stride and pulled back to even the score. With a draw of 4-4 at the end of quarter one, it looked like we were in for a close match. Some coaching pointers from Katy and a change around in defence for both teams, gave the Tigers the upper hand at the start of the second quarter. Despite some very physical defending from the Tameside GK, the Tigers shooters held their nerve to pull ahead of Tameside for the first time in the match. Some lovely passing through mid court kept the game flowing and the Tigers won the second quarter by 5 goals, leading 11-6 at half time. The third quarter saw a shuffle in mid court for the Tigers. Tameside's strong defence really tested the Tigers forward movement onto the ball but they continued to battle hard to maintain their lead, marginally winning the quarter to finish 17-11. Final changes to both defence and mid court in the last quarter saw the Tigers take the upper hand. Despite some very poor refereeing, the defence worked brilliantly to deny the Tameside shooters any space and the Tigers shooting team gelled well together to find the net on a further 4 occasions.
A cracking post Easter team performance from the girls today. Well done to Tigers Alice, Amber, Amy, Frankie, Inga, Josie and Pumas Hannah and Maisie. Thanks very much for helping us out today girls and a huge thank you to Katy for her coaching input which was invaluable. And finally thanks to our supporters for forfeiting their Sunday roast to cheer the girls on.
