| Mackie | vs | Madrascals (P3-P7) |
The day was cold and clear but, unforunately the minds of the P6s were warm and fuzzy as they began their campaign against the hosts at Mackie.
Toby pushed over for an early try but the team seemed to be standing off the ruck and their ball watching allowed Mackie to capitalise on their mistakes and were beaten 3-1. The chilly weather soon penetrated the bodies and minds of the boys and the next match saw a marked change against Aberdeen Grammar as Kim Pearson sprinted down the wing at the start of the next match and was pushed out just short of the line. Not put off though, Madras attacked again and had their hands in the ruck, feeding the ball to Jack Headon who scored a gutsy try. Aberdeen Grammar found a small gap in the Madras defence and ran in a try to even the score. Undeterred, Madras held onto most of the possession and Kim finally got his reward with a try which meant a deserved victory for Madras 2-1. Another increase in intensity followed as Madras took on old friends Howe and a superb match ensued with both teams playing out of their skins. Archie Stewart-Wilson scored a very determined try and the whole team was disappointed when Howe scored back. Good possession, rucking work and turnover ball saw Madras approach the Howe line more than once but the try never came and the score remained 1-1. Disappointed, but not dispirited, Madras finished the day with a fast and furious match against Ellon. Kim started off proceedings with a swift try and then there was a weak moment when Ellon were allowed through to score the equaliser. Griffin Levy decided that wasn't on and ducked and weaved his way to a try to set things right again. Toby was in the right place once again to score the third and despite a very speedy player from Ellon sneaking a try, Kim finished it off with another in the corner. 4-2.
Solid work was displayed throughout by Alexander Samuel, Craig Sloan and Alister Turnbull; Mikey Walker and Ben Smart are improving week on week with Alistair Dow finding some good space. Adam Balfour showed inspired vision making some impressive gritty advances. The team is really coming together and despite the slow start, there is much to be proud of - well done to everyone
