The NDL Explained

The National Development League (NDL) a programme to
meet the needs of new and developing women’s clubs in
Scotland. It combines competition and skills development for all
players aged 17+, through a skill specific coaching session
based on the KNT (Key National Theams) delivered by the
core NDL coaches and local guest coaches followed by league
games.

All players take part in the coaching session and then play 7,
10, 12 or 15-a-side games with their team; individual players
who attend are allocated to a team on the day. The results from
these games are collated and used to produce the NDL league
table.

Each club in the league hosts an NDL event, there will be 6 NDL league events and 1 NDL
tournament day, where non NDL teams are invited to play in a straight forward tournament.

The NDL offers the chance to develop rugby skills and to get some valuable game time. The
flexibility of the programme is one main reasons it is so successful……..

Who is it for?

  • New clubs who are building their numbers
  • Existing clubs who can’t regularly turn-out 15 players
  • Relatively new and inexperienced players
  • Players who have stopped playing rugby and want to start playing again
  • University teams with young players new to the game
  • Individual players who want to play but don’t have a team
  • Individual players who do have a team but need to develop their skills or game experience
  • Small groups of women wanting to give it a try for the first time
  • U18
  • youth teams that have a lot of players getting too old for youth rugby and looking to start playing in the senior game

How much does it cost?
Nothing! Entry into the NDL, however, all players attending must be registered with Scottish Rugby
