On Sunday last week Maesteg Celtic RFC held the Clive Evans Memorial Mini Tournament at Garth Park, which is still sponsored by Mrs Jennifer Evans and family for the twelfth season.Clive was a long serving official and committeeman of the club, who had also held the position of Glamorgan County President. Through his extensive contacts in rugby throughout the world, the club played Arizona Wildcats University at Celtic on two occasionsin the early eighties, with the touring party staying with families throughout the Llynfi Valley. As a result of this and following Clive's passing, in his memory Arizona University presented a trophy to the club to be played for each season.
Also at this tournament this year it was intended that the trophy would be presented by Dave Seaton who was head of rugby at NBC Television and a member of the Arizona University touring party and remained a friend to Maesteg Celtic RFC and Clive and his family. Sadly Dave passed away a couple of weeks prior to the tournament and his family decided to set up the Player of the Tournament and of each age group.
