A pleasing tournament for our new look team.
We entered this tournament so the new players & parents could get to know each other & feel part of our team. The new players settled into the team like they had been here for a long time, it was great to see which will only help team spirit going forward.
So there was no expectation, as it was the first time that the eight players had played together, with only Faye, Jacob & Alex left over from last season with others being away on holiday or assisting Craig's team.
The kids put in a great team performance and played some lovely football along the way, probably the best footballing side in the group with some teams resorting to getting the keeper to launch the ball long every time but our defence & Faye dealt with it each time.
We played six games, winning three, losing one & drawing one. This enabled us to come second in the group & qualify for the quarter finals, we were beaten by a free kick, no sour grapes but the best team lost, we created three good chances but it wasn't our day. The kids looked tired to after a long day.
It was a pleasing tournament, as it allowed us to see three of the new players plus Chris Ellison who will be assisting Saturdays at times.
Ted showed exactly what he could by playing in numerous positions & being a real presence on the pitch. Harry has skill & pace, he will cause defences problems when we feed him the ball. There is so much more to come from Charlie, technically very good & great positioning sense. Chris worked tirelessly for the team along with Sean.
Faye was her usual reliable self & Jacob started to look the player we know he can be. Alex worked hard all day, passed the ball across the field & chipped in with some goals too.
Add these players to the missing Sean, Reuben, Callum, Ben & Tom plus our two new signings Jay & Cameron & we will have a great squad who will only get better.
Well done to all, hope the parents enjoyed it as much as we did.
