After a disappointing defeat to Lions FC in our last group cup game it was important we started the new league campaign with a victory. We start a little bit tentatively but early nerves were settled when Oscar Pugh
latched onto a through ball from Connor Dyer
and lobbed the keeper from the edge of the box 1-0 Maghull! We were still struggling to exert total dominance on a determined Crosby side when they pulled one back. 1-1 at half-time.
The second half started in the same way, no real flowing football with both sides strugling to master difficult conditions. However we went 2-1 up when Jacob Dooley
went down the right and crossed one in which somehow found its way into the top corner! Billy Whittle
was his usual 'involved in everyting' self as was young Ciaran Boylan
at the back, seeming to be at every loose ball in our last third. Then we switched off and they were back in it, a scramble in our box fell kindly to their striker and it was 2-2!
Despite being pegged back we never stopped going forward and our determination was rewarded when Jacko Forrester chased down their backline and in doing so beat their keeper to a loose ball and nodded one over him to make it 3-2!
A close shave but one thing we have added to our ability to play football is the desire to win. We might well have lost this one at the start of the season but sheer determination is what won this one for us. Well in boys next up Lydiate Saints in the league.
