Maghull 5 vs 0 Ormskirk
Maghull take victory to win league
This game had been a long time coming and what a game to finish the winter league with, two teams top of the league with only a point between them.
We told the lads before the game to just give 100% and enjoy themselves on the pitch win or lose we where proud of them.
They started the game with an added edge and swamped Ormskirk from the first whistle. The boys pressed high and never gave the opposition a chance to play winning most challenges. We got a dream start when Tom Hilditch lifted the ball over the keeper then followed the ball up to smash into the net for 1-0. The lead was quickly doubled when a pin point cross from on fire Tom Hilditch was headed in by Charlie Bennett.
The first half passed quick with us creating more chances but having little to worry about at the other end.
The second half started and the lads didnt let up challenging for every ball from front to back it took a while for the third goal to come but it was worth the wait with Dan Grundy smashing the ball hoe from outside the area from a very tight angle. Goal number 4 nearly came when a lob by Dan Cliffe was cleared off the line.
The boys had bags of energy still and never let up and some really slick passing and a cross to the edge of the box saw Charlie Bennett get his second with a brilliant header from almost 15 yards out.
The game was nearly up but not before we put all ormskirk hopes well out of reach when again some great teamwork and build up play saw Charlie with a one on one with the keeper and those who know him well know there was only one place the ball was going to end up! 5-0.
The lads really deserved the win today they made an excellent side look average at times not one player left anything on the pitch when the walked off at the final whistle. Also showing how close as a unit they are working as a unit from start to finish.
The support today from all friends and family was amazing and really gave us a lift so for that i say a big thank you to you all.
MOM today was by far the hardest we have ever had to pick in the end we settled on Dan Grundy who in turn said it belonged to every player on the pitch (great touch), it just shows how much these lads are a team.
A massive well done lads all your hard work paid off!!
